Typhon:BvB
FAQ
Common questions about Typhon: Bot vs Bot
It all sounds cool, but how does one actually play the game? .
This was a question asked in various forms by many people, so we decided that if a picture is worth a thousand words, a demo should be worth at least a hundred thousand. We put together a free playable demo of the game, which is available on Steam.
The demo is very short, only one playable mission and doesn’t support multiplayer, but it includes a tutorial and we hope it will help to convey the type of gameplay and quality we aim for in Typhon: Bot vs Bot. We also tried to make the demo mission just a little challenging.
While we plan to release the game on both PC and Mac platforms, the demo is currently available only for Windows.
What is BvB? .
What kind of co-op multiplayer content will be available? .
Co-op content, known as Bot vs Environment or BvE, will consist of multiplayer missions where various bots have to work together to accomplish a common goal. We plan to have some content for smaller groups (4-5 players) and also largers groups (8-10 players).
What kind of PvP content will be available? .
Can I play with my friends? .
Absolutely! You can form a team and send bots together on both BvE and BvB team missions.
What if I don't have enough friends online? .
Not a problem! Our innovative player matching system allows you to play with offline friends that allow you to team-up with them or even with total strangers that make their bots available to help other players on missions.
What will queuing times be like? .
Queueing in Typhon:BvB is very different from traditional MMOs, because we don’t need the players to be in front of the keyboard during the mission. After you send your bot on a mission you can do something else – prepare for another mission, try a different loadout or even log out of the game entirely and come back later. Once the mission is completed (or when you log back into the game) you will be notified and you will be able to view the mission replay.
Are there going to be BvB tournaments? .
Yes! The final format is still evolving, but we want to have regular tournaments for 1 vs 1, premade teams and battle royale. Organizations like schools and businesses will be able to create their own in-house tournaments for their members.
What languages will Typhon BvB support? .
Initially, Typhon:BvB will support Python as the programming language for bots. However, we have plans to expand to more languages in the future and want to make sure that the implementation is balanced properly. The choice of language shouldn’t give players an unfair edge or handicap.
What level of programming knowledge do I need? .
One of the goals of the solo campaign is to start at a basic knowledge level and teach players all the tricks they need to know in order to be competitive in multiplayer content.
I don't know Python. Can I learn by playing Typhon:BvB? .
The initial release will require some basic Python knowledge and we will have a page with resources for players who want to learn. We are considering adding a campaign that can teach Python from scratch, but this is something we will release in future expansions.
What about documentation? .
There will be full documentation on how to control bots and how to create mods, both in-game and on this site. There isn’t any in-game documentation for the demo mission, but all the information is in the code. Just a bit of extra challenge 🙂
